A sea of change
COUNCILLORS are spending £12,000 to help seafront visitors spend a penny. Improvements to public toilets were one of the key things to come out of a consultation to find out what improvements people would like to see to the seafront.
People wanted to see improvements to the toilets, but they also wanted them to be open in the winter as well as summer.
Now councillors on the City Council’s North Area Committee have agreed to invest £12,000 in keeping the toilets open all year round.
Big plans unveiled for city play parks
SUNDERLAND City Council is pressing ahead with ambitious plans to transform a Sunderland play park.
Thompson Park is one of six play areas funded by the Big Lottery Fund as part of Sunderland Council’s Play and Urban Games Strategy.
Children and young people from Southwick Neighbourhood Youth Project, and Wearmouth Community Development Trust Ltd and the Friends of Thompson Park, were consulted throughout the project to establish what they would like to see in the new play area.
